08 Catchup Rant.....
.....1/5/08 was the 2nd anniversary of GlyphJockey. Fewer posts, but what the hey. Just hope you'll keep checking in and that I haven't lost you during the recent lull.
Year 2=
6.5 Million hits (more than double year one)
240K Visits (2.5 times that of year one)
164K unique visitors (10 times that of year one)
this translates roughly into $1.43 (yes, 143 cents) earned at my Amazon store and zero Dollar store celebrity hoochie calendars sold - so uh, it's not about monetizing, huh?

I also had a recent wedding anniversary, (a milestone one) and concluded that I had such messed up relationships when I was single because I was supposed to be with Mrs. Lex10.

Now if you're an Atheist (notice I capitalized- nice, huh?) it was probably because I was f-ing them up psychologically because I really wanted her or a reasonable facsimile (because at the time I thought I didn't have a shot).

If you're Spiritually inclined, it was because I was destined to be with her.

On that note, a quick question: What do Richard Dawkins and Penn Jillette do when they hear a song like "Into the Mystic"? Do they go, "Meh."? Believe me, I know there's no Santy Claus, but I still get moved. Only now I feel guilty about it. I don't want to be meat on a rock, and intellectual gyrations that justify it aren't helping me feel any better. Religion however is clearly just bogus self hypnosis conducted by closet egomaniacs. Screw it, where's my Alan Watts .mp3s ?!?!?

New business: The "Yow" post was me sending the wallpaper that I made for my phone to Blogger to test it. Y'see I was unable to Moblog because Blogger sends back a confirmation email with an address that is, like, 97 characters long, and the phone just aborts. They've replaced it twice, and were very nice about it, but they just don't understand mobile blogging - it's as if I lapsed into French when I tried to explain it. Blogger meanwhile, well, you're on your own, ain't ya? So, I've blocked those mails from coming to my phone, and that should work. Expect to enjoy more shit I see in real time, kids.

By the way, my phone is the same one shown in pictures of Britney Spears driving through a red light while texting. It's famous!

One friend had 5" of his colon cut out, another got fired, and then The Perfect American had a heart attack. Bummer for all of them.

The Perfect American
(where I contributed, during his computerless hiatus and will still)seems to be back thanks to Cleveland Public Library, a venerable institution, with really nice architecture (at least at downtown central). I found contributing there very liberating, and now it's back to it's Zen experience of ...uh, not reading it, but letting it wash over me.

I still continue to be comforted by the fact that I can also contribute to PCL LinkDump, with the likes of Percy, Ange, Johnny, Goof, Martin, Sebastian (who I thought was The Perfect American - Mr. Jyn - get it - SebasJYN?!? ) and the others. They're a bunch of clever M.F.s - I'm often in awe.

I also, in keeping it "85% Fresh" find it sometimes difficult to post stuff when it's an assload of work. Believe me I know you're looking, so I might (shudder) do some referring in the mix that compromises my "85% Fresh" claim.

I also promise more original videos in the coming months but hey, I got a job & family.

So, much love and on with the show.

Neil Young's Revolution Blues

My son gave me Helter Skelter for Christmas (I know, I know, we're like the Addams Family)

Anyhoo, I'm reading it & then, the universe, being what it is, sends me Neil Young's Revolution Blues:

NEIL YOUNG - Revolution Blues
Well, we live in a trailer at the edge of town
You never see us 'cause we don't come around.
We got twenty five rifles just to keep the population down.

But we need you now, and that's why I'm hangin' 'round.

So you be good to me
and I'll be good to you,

And in this land of conditions
I'm not above suspicion

I won't attack you,
but I won't back you.

Well, it's so good to be here, asleep on your lawn.
Remember your guard dog? Well, I'm afraid that he's gone.
It was such a drag to hear him whining all night long.

Yes, that was me with the doves, setting them free near the factory
Where you built your computer, love.

I hope you get the connection, 'cause I can't take the rejection

I won't deceive you,
I just don't believe you.

Well, I'm a barrel of laughs,
with my carbine on

I keep 'em hoppin', till my ammunition's gone.

But I'm still not happy, I feel like there's something wrong.

I got the revolution blues,
I see bloody fountains,

And ten million dune buggies comin' down the mountains.
Well, I hear that Laurel Canyon is full of famous stars,
But I hate them worse than lepers and I'll kill them in their cars.

Now- did I tell ya Lex10 met Bugliosi? 25 years ago.
Absolutely like being in the presence of a saint.....

Pine autopsy
We had a spectacular tree- a pendulous pine about forty feet high.

It was killed by drought, root compression, carpenter ants and shot borer.

The crew I hired brought a giant bucket truck

The operator had to avoid hiiting the powerlines to the house.

The cutting began.

They brought a chipper - or as I call it-

a "widowermaker" to consolidate the fallen branches.

I don't know why it was clled Chuck, but they explained to me they had to pay a competitor to chip the bigger logs, and then the competitor sold the chips as mulch, making money twice off the deal.

Here's the tree stump frowning - so sad. I fed this tree, watered it and pursued the invading insects as best I could. One day, there were zero needles anymore.

They gound the stump as part of the deal. I dunno why but the stump grinder was named after a 17th century Dutch painter - Jan Vermeer

Carpenter ant damage:

Feats of strength were performed by the crew.

Mystery: What Pooped Here?
I swear I really have no interest in poop, other than it's successful exit from my person regularly.

However when Mrs. Lex10 pointed this out to me, I knew I had that type of hard-hitting blog reporting that everyone who stops in thirsts for.

This first image shows my little pond out back (taken last night) home to ~2+ frogs along with several goldfish who managed to mature and/or reproduce before they were to big to eat.

The red arrow points to a broken half planter that is meant to look like a submerged ruin, and serves as a perch for the frogs and a hiding place (underneath) for both the frogs and the fish. It is surrounded by water 360 degrees.

Next images: the poop in question. From the looks of it, mammalian. Size appropriate for a large cat or medium dog.

HOW DID IT GET THERE?
Did the animal perch at the edge of the pond making a direct hit on the planter? If a kitty, did it climb onto the planter, seeking to evacuate? What?!?! How?!?!

And more importantly, why in such an improbable location? Why?

Next image: Doodle bugs, wood lice or pill bugs - I don't care what you call them - why are THEY there?!?! Do they eat poop? Do they swim? Why aren't they buried under something? Again I say: What?!?! How?!?! Why?!?!

OK- Wikipedia says they have gills- but I've never seen one swim. They eat decaying matter - but they don't appear to be swarming the poop - more like just coincidentally there......

Sharing=caring.

NEW VIDEO: La Virgen de Xtabay
Here's what I want to say about this:

I live near a flea market called Cowtown (Previous posts here, here and here) which also hosts from May-Sept the only regular rodeo in NJ, complete with PETA protesters, a Grand Parade, and 12-pack drinkin' divorcee' dads.

Anyway, Cowtown is a flea market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. On Saturdays, it's less of an antique/collectable venue and more of a crap/knockoff sale. There are a lot of Korean and Chinese vendors, but the most interesting are the Andean vendors. I say Andean because they can be from multiple locations in S.A., but they inevitably sell really rustic knitted gear, and handicrafts from that region (like pan pipes and bracelets that say stuff like "Quito"). On spring days Andean musicians will play, and the atmosphere becomes really prosaic, with catfish frying across from tacos mojados and boxes upon boxes of items that look like they came from a parallel universe.

Well, as it turns out, many of these vendors sell, by virtue of a common language to the Mexican members of the community, providing them with stuff they want, often emblazoned with the Virgin of Guadalupe - a potent symbol of Mexican faith & pride.

It was this juxtaposition of Andeans selling la Virgen on (sometimes really plush two-ply) blankets alongside their native designs that made me put this video together. Music is Yma Sumac's (herself a Peruvian) Voice of The Xtabay- a Yucatan legend. The stuff juxtaposes itself - no?

Enjoy.

Kustom Kristmas
I'm always lookin' for that je ne sais quoi- that lagniappe from my Xmas lights. It's one thing to put up a bunch, but I needed to modify to achieve certain effects:
First:

I took gold strands and electrical taped together every 10th and 11th bulb.

and hit each one with a coupla coats Candy Apple Flake Red, to achieve this effect:

Effectively randomizing a larger brighter different citrus color for this pine.

Second:

scrape the green off every 10th bulb from 6 strands of green bulbs. (Picture shows scraped halfway.) Want to use the same knife I did? see my Amazon store.

Then affix chili pepper bulb covers over the freshly cleared bulbs and wrap the tree. This is how it looks:

and achieves this effect - leaves and fruits - at night

Lastly I custom painted the bottom strand of red bulbs on this cherry to get a somewhat gradient effect in order to suggest... spring cherry.
