Toy Movie Reconstructed
I bought this years and years ago, and have never seen it, owing to the dearth of 16mm projectors in my life these days. It came in a small orange cardboard box marked Kiddy Toy Safety Film. It was about 5' long (additionally rendering its viewability problematic) and was intended to be viewed in some sort of toy movie viewer/projector.

It's been driving me nuts, wondering all these years what's on the film. The protagonist, named Kitty Cat, bears a striking resemblance to Otto Messmer's Felix the Cat.

I put the film in my scanner, scanned it at 1800dpi or so and dragged each frame through a 720px x 480px window saving each frame and then dropping it all into Movie Maker with properties set at .125 seconds per image. The results are below.

The motivation to experience this stems from years of Kenner Give-a-Show projectors and ViewMasters. There's the insightful bloggish psychological bit.

Lastly, it's a little washed out, because the original is a little washed out.

Looks good? Blow it up & see.
Enhancements did little to improve, but did not really worsen it. I added some music appropriate to the content and voila'. I was urged by my son to not desaturate, and aesthetically, I agree.

Raging now: How the HECK Do I like My Eggs !?!?!?!??!?!
That's right - if you're paying even ZERO attention...EGGS A LA MOE! Y'Know, where the eggs DON'T get flipped yet the chicken ass germs DON'T cause salmonella because they have SEALED OVER plus the yolks remain liquid due to heat application, owing to the fact that a lid has been applied to the pan to achieve this effect.

PEOPLE- get with the program fer chrissake!!!!

Note: eggs never actually act as glasses for the real Lex10 - I mean, what the hell do you think?!?!?!? They're Eggs! Ya can't see through them!!! Well, maybe the whites when they're raw, but - ew.....

NOW PAY THE *&%# ATTENTION......pretty please beloved visitors......

Poor Retarded Dog
...as my youngest daughter put it- watch as Terrytoons' Heckle and Jeckle psychologically torture the "stupid dog" from their oeuvre. It's exquisite, and that's why these magpies (apparently almost nonexistent in the USA!- USA!- USA!- yet copious in the UK) have the upper hand. Moral of the story: Don't be a stupid jerkoff.

THE CLEVELAND WHITE DEVILS
I was watching the playoffs a little and I told my wife "I want one of those hats!" Y'know, a blue hat with a red bill, and that cool Indian logo on it. My wife reminded me that the hat was reprehensible because it was racist. She's right. But that cartoon is so cool

Think about it, the Cleveland Indian Logo, which now is often seen as racist, has a subtext to it:

Wild savages ready to attack.
Crazy warriors with Tomahawks and arrows.
Unrelenting onslaught.
Insane and badass.

And not a "Hey what about, 'I will fight no more forever'?" in sight, Nor a "They are enigmatic..." Also a dearth of "Our founding fathers borrowed from the Iroquois for the Constitution!!!"

Jus' WILD INDIANS. (Fun fact: Indians actually come from India!)

SO HERES A SOLUTION......

THE CLEVELAND WHITE DEVIL

Now, think about it-

400 years of slavery of African Americans
Smallpox blankets sold to the Indians
Invisible weapons of mass destruction
No evolution
Shock and Awe
The most elaborate serial killers
Tasing Cops
WWF
Deliverance
Insert godawful thing here
In short actually INSANE AND BADASS

I think I'm gonna get these made........whaddyathink?

Sequitur: a Flash Comic + Weirdness
I'm working on a concept piece using "Three Quarter Covers" comics (comics remaindered but given credit for by returning the title area or the top quarter of the cover to the distributor) called Sequitur, using largely non-verbal panels to form a concept stream.

Don't yew judge me! Don't judge me!

The picture immediately below is a link to SEQUITUR

BUT That's not all!!!

I found a couple of other oddities while collecting the images for Sequitur:

First, this pre-Bruno Magli OJ Simpson ad for Dingo boots!

(Link to bigger on click)

Next, this LOLmeme panel from 77 Sunset Strip Comics

Lastly, Barney Bear trying to get his chickens to explore alternative lifestyles....

Link to bigger above^^

The chickens looked shocked, I must admit.

Black Hula
By Marv Newland on Bambi Meets Godzilla Fame. When I saw it 2 deacades ago it made me cry. The message in the mise-en-scene says it all. I aslo think he unconciously influenced my choice of music (for differing emotional effect)in The Greatest Nancy Panel Ever Drawn Revisited.

Mashup Video: Flip the Frog in Killing Floor
Ub Iwerks' "Fiddlesticks" is in the public domain. I am reading Neal Gabler's Disney biography - and it's amazing how all these early greats all knew each other back in Kansas City - Iwerks and Disney were partners, as were they with Harman and Ising. The organ player at the local theatre was Carl Stalling. Anyway I wanted to try this mashup, owing to the fact that early animation, by virtue of it sheer amazingness, had a lot of micro zen moments, where a character was merely bouncing up and down in place for instance, while music played. A cartoon like Fiddlesticks then lends itself to this type of project because of various animation "slugs" that can be cobbled together.

Plus, the song is awesome.

Arab War - Private Snafu - Booby Traps
The image of the camel with the bomb really felt weird to watch with troops in Iraq getting the same treatment.

But, whaddyaget when Frank Capra, Mel Blanc, Dr. Seuss, P.D. Eatsman ("Go Dog, Go!"), Bob Clampett, Chuck Jones and Friz Freling are all collaborating at Leon Schlesinger's Warner Brothers Animation Studio in order to save American lives? Private Snafu

Here's where to download these.
