205 Serial Killer Names - A Hallowe'en Gift From Glyphjockey

linkpic

Having listened to John Hodgman's 700 Hobo Names a dozen times, this concept appeared in my mind just prior to Hallowe'en.

While millions of hoboes ruled the Earth, serial killers are confined to the shadows, if you will, and so the inventory of names is not quite as robust, yielding 205, rather than 700.

Regardless, please allow the names to cascade over your cortex for maximum Hallowe'eny effect.

Text of the names HERE
When does it end!?!?!?

1927 reprint of a 1919 volume of Uncle Wiggily's Apple Roast by Howard R. Garis (who was also Victor Appleton!)

The picture below is a link to a Skuddlemagoon wallpaper:

The illustrations by Lang Campbell are sumptuous. I scanned big in order to appreciate the line work. The bad guys are vile.... and stupid!

There's some more examples of Garis' work here (with illustrations!)

Moblog Atlantic City

AC is shite. Everyone loves it tho. It's a big, overt, low, existential nightmare of misery diguised as happiness. Ecch. The weird thing is that perfectly nice people Loooooove it- people YOU like! I just don't get it! So as commentary, please enjoy the pix of horrid bay motels on the way out of town....

Hallowe'en Heave

Hush hush, sweet Charlotte
Charlotte, don't you cry
Hush hush, sweet Charlotte
He'll love you till he dies
Oh, hold him darling
Please hold him tight
And brush the tear from your eye
You weep because you had a dream last night
You dreamed that he said goodbye
He held two roses within his hand
Two roses he gave to you
The red rose tells you of his passion
The white rose his love so true
(Chorus)
And every night after he shall die
Yes every night when he's gone
The wind will sing you this lullaby
Sweet Charlotte was loved by John

Lost EP Treat: Donovan's Barabajagal by The Love In
A hit EP from the UK in 1991 - back when the Scots were still neck deep in vinyl. There were long and comprehensive notes about the players and the EP's significance in Melody Maker the week it came out, but.... who remembers? Still I love this rendition......

From cover gag to Daisy rifle ad.
Each image links to a larger one in a new window.
Shot with a "no smooshing" camera & tripod.

One comment: Bushmiller's addiction to jamming jokes without regard to narrative is richly apparent.

Enjoy.

The Highwayman - Bloody Good!

Note: I'm not crazy about poetry unless it's hyper-violent & from the first decade of the 20th century.

The Highwayman
By Alfred Noyes
FULL TEXT HERE AND AT IMAGE

Here's a huge spoiler tho:
VII
Tlot-tlot, in the frosty silence! Tlot-tlot, in the echoing night!
Nearer he came and nearer! Her face was like a light!
Her eyes grew wide for a moment; she drew one last deep breath,
Then her finger moved in the moonlight,
Her musket shattered the moonlight,
Shattered her breast in the moonlight and warned him-with her death.

A Percy Puss-centric Little Roquefort w/Hot (Cold) Rods
Another Little Roquefort comic tale here & at the pic below:

I'm going to finish off this comic soon - it's nearly desytroyed:

and headed for the recycle bin owing to the fact that it cannot be handled and that some nerdlinger completist somewhere has it archived.

I've also whipped up a Percy Puss/Hot Rod Wallpaper:

Rich and Deep Smokey Stover Resource
Bill Holman's Smokey Stover was my favorite comics as a kid back in Tinley Park, IL. A gag in every panel. Insane person pacing, contraptions, and getups. I read it every chance I could in the Chicago Tribune.

Now Tribune Media has put up scores of old Smokey Stover Comics at the official site. (Link also at pic.) The site is well Designed by Paradox Tulpa Arts, but some of the scans are poorly produced. It's still a wondeful source for Foo.

Joseph Laux Wallpaper
Made from some of the embedded crockery....
Pic's a link

enjoy
Joseph Laux's Backyard Fairyland
Joseph Laux (1904-1991) used rocks from Skyline drive and elsewhere, glass from Southern NJ blast furnaces, shells, statuettes and crockery embedded in what appears to be a portland cement blend to build his castles, walls, bridges and towers.

The site is in a yard on Route 41 in Deptford, NJ- an occasional route to work for me. There's rumored to be 2 more elsewhere in the area. I went for a 1024px "filmstrip" for the immersion effect. Not sure if I like it - but you definitely get detail.....

The Mad Peck
I really debated about doing this one, because the online resources were so sketchy (no pun intended).

The Mad Peck, when I read him, was doing comics in the Village Voice every week and that's a lot of what's featured in his book, Mad Peck Studios: A 20 Year Retrospective which I guess is really, really out-of print.

He covered the coolest music of the late 70's and early 80's with style. Stuff I never would've considered listening to. The amazing thing was he's the only person I know of (from the intro to the book) to get harrassed by record companies for sending mix tapes to his friends, a la the DRM fiasco going on in the world today. (See Glyphjockey's The Cassette Project)

The book also had the distinction of being the only book in my library that ever just sort of - fell apart. I've still got it tho-

Maybe I'll try to get hold of him to see if I can post some pages.

Any way the picture's a link to Reverend Dan's Music for Nimrods (he'll have some good Hallowe'en music, you betcha) which has some strips and HERE is the link to Naragansett Bay Novelties, which is The Mad Peck's site, but kind of only sports older stuff and HERE is the Wikipedia link.

The GlyphJockey Collection of Crispy Plastic Hallowe'en Masks
This is an auotmated slide show of all the cheapo plastic masks in the GlyphJockey collection. There's no control except FASTER. I'd let it run through first and then watch the loaded images @ 3 sec. ea.

The 3rd world interpretations of what a mask should be are myriad- they draw from many resources: Big Daddy Roth, contemporary horror, Greek mythology, and TV. More importantly a little tiny hat seems to be a marketing plus.

It's getting harder to find these - last year I couldn't find any.

Hallowe'en's comin'! I Got a Mojo Hand & a Graveyard Mind

This is my favorite hallowe'en decoration around here. It just screams supernatural mojo. The picture is a link to a 1 meg giant view, and there's a link to the mojo incantation on the back here.

Play your cards right and I'll show you the spookier loteria cards around here..

Eno w/801 @ Reading Festival 8/26/1976

From Jim DeRogatis' Kaleidoscope Eyes:
After leaving Roxy Music, Eno played live on only a few occasions. In 1974 he taped a session for the BBC backed by the Winkies, playing a set that climaxed in a psychotic version of "Fever." With Manzanera and bassist Bill MacCormick, he was a member of the "all-star" band 801, which was captured on a live album released in 1976.
